Mormons are Commies ("prove" me wrong)

True. However, in the "ideal" Mormon communitarian society ("United Order"), one would sign the deed for one's land etc. over to the bishop, who would then almost always then charge the owner with working the land for the benefit of his family and the community as a whole. The "Law of Consecration" is key here (even though I suspect many well-off Mormons would have serious trouble following that law if push came to shove).
That may all very well be true, but Main Line Mormons (LDS) are not Marixst Communists. They are not even Socialists.

Interesting question but I'm not comfortable with the title of this thread from a TOS perspective. Yes, difficult titles in PPR bother me. A lot. Its like inviting people to violate the TOS, even when the actual discussion does not.
Sorry, side note, off topic, but to me the crass terminology is getting way out of control. Like saying the F word just to silence the room and get people to turn their heads. We should be smarter than that.
Totally my own personal opinion. Debate it at will. But ... think about it.

Ahh, but if you look back at my very first post on this topic, my first line was:

Mormon doctrine sees a voluntary communitarianism as the ideal community. However, it's quite different from communism or socialism.
So, we agree on this one.

Ruveyn the church official stays out of politics unless it feels that it goes against church doctrine. In the UK I know of Mormon local government politicians in many political parties, so its unfair to say that all mormons are a member of one political spectrum.

This is not like the case of most Jews are zionist but the haredim less so.
that is hard to parse the majority of the LDS church may well be republicans
but the truly devout this includes all the leadership swear oaths in temples
to the commune. this makes them communists with a little c and since they predate Marx
they are of course not marxists.
but the more mormon a body is the more he is a communist (with a little c)
with that said Mit from a 5 generation mormon family
and Glenn is a convert.

Well, in the USA commie is short hand for anyone you don't like. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Marx believe people (well, the majority of people) would welcome Communism? It was more Lenin and especially Stalin who perverted it, wasn't it?
MARX'S Communism wasn't just that the majority of people ("The working class") would welcome it, it was about the majority of people GAINING POWER AND ENACTING IT. According toe Marx's original theory, the Working Class (in a bottom-up, no central leader fashion) would gain control of the State Appartus and produce a classeless society. From that classeless society, in a state of perfect equality and voluntary associations, the State would whither away. So "pure" communism is stateless by definition (the transitionary period, where the working class has gained control of the State, is called "socialism"). The only difference between communists and leftwing anarchists is that leftwing anarachists want to abolish the state instantly, whereas communisms think the forces of classelessness will do the job. Things, of course, don't turn out as they do in theory.

You kidding me? 150 years ago maybe. Modern mormons equate wealth with piety more than any other visible attribute.
ah but still the oath to the commune.
