Mary and Max.

Have you seen this movie? How close to accurate did it seem to you? I watched it a couple of weeks ago and cried a lot, in the good way.

I cried, too, but I would love to see it again. I thought it was rather brilliant in approach and execution. I don't know if it was "accurate", but then again, each person's experience on the spectrum is so individual, you know? I do think it was reasonable.

This was actually the movie I saw that made me think maybe I had AS and that I should get tested for it. Life changing for me, so I will probably cry every time I see it now. LOL

I saw it and it did make me cry when Max got mad at Mary for her book.

I will never understand how shows and movies portray aspies as how they act in unexpected situations like when they read letters or when they see something they don't like like that dummy in Arthur George likes to carry. I always figured it meant being in situations and they don't know what to expect so they get stressed out and have anxiety and meltdowns.

Did Mary have AS too?

It seemed like she did, but the movie didn't say so like with Max.

I don't think she did because Max was only meant to have AS not Mary but I wondered so too. But Max seemed more textbook, stereotypical exaggerated symptoms while Mary seemed more on the mild side.

I wondered this too. It seemed like early on they emphasized some AS-like traits but that got dropped by the wayside over time.

I went and watched it after reading this thread.
Very good film.
I think Max's experience is very pronounced, but certainly not unrealistic.
Hopefully this film will inspire others to understand the condition.
