I think it’s well established that men and women behave differently in mixed company than they do in gender-segregated groups. I know that children perform better in gender-segregated classrooms, especially in middle school (pre-teens). It seems that boys do better when they’re not distracted by girls, and girls do better when they don’t feel like they have to compete with boys. I studied Elementary Education in collage. I was one of only two men in a class of 90. I think they thought I was weird for wanting to teach kindergarder/1st grade. After a while they just ignored me and I got to observe the way young women behave when there’re no men around. Know what? They behave just like young men.

I feel like the Locker Room is the place where men can act like boys and do the things men and boys do, roughhouse, trash talk women in general (but no one in particular), were jock straps on their head, whatever. Women who poke around in the Locker Room shouldn’t be surprised if they get snapped with a towel.

Likewise with the Woman’s Pavilion or whatever they want to call it.

Also, since these are public forums, less knowledgeable people will have the opportunity to observe how the other sex behaves in a gender-segregated group. I think this experiment has the potential to be a very educational experience for many of us, not to mention a lot of fun.

Er... yeah, except both males and females have been freely posting to each of the gender-related forums for the last couple of days.

Funny though because there are women who feel that they don't fit in well with women either and hung out with the boys in school. There may be certain isues women feel more comfortable talking about with other women just because physically men can't really understand but I don't know if that is the case for general conversations.

Yeah, we probably need to curb that behavior. It's only been a couple of days. We're still working the kinks out.

I think this is not a good idea because remember what Martin Luther King said, segregation is bad. That's why blacks and whites can use the same bathrooms, restaurants and such.

Also, did I see this topic posted three times? Why is that?

Well, we still have segregated bathrooms (most places) and segregated bull sessions, and we're not talking about the whole site, just two forums, just as we have two segregated locker/changing rooms for one integrated gym at integrated schools everywhere.

And this topic was posted three times because I can't seem to make this infernal machine work right sometimes. Sometimes I can't delete posts. Sometimes I can't edit posts. I wish this site was more fully functional in every way, programmed in a variety of techniques. Or may be it's my equipment. I'd hate to think I needed a better computer and/or faster ISP just to post on this silly forum.

Oh, a server issue and a very slow site at times. It's happened to me before, I understand.

But, what are you thinking?

About this whole topic in general, that's what I'm asking.

Well I don't know what more to tell you. I think it's a good social experiment. I hope that we see it through for at least a few months before we abandon it. Or maybe people will just lose interest.

I think you've said that before. Why do you say that?

Why can't girls and boys use the same bathrooms?

Hi!

Mark, correct?

This is Jason. I would like to tell you something.

I used to be a moderator of this forum before you came here. Then, I told Alex I didn't want to be one because I didn't have the time. I have the time now, but Alex has not re-instated moderating duties to me yet.

I want to let you know that if I were a moderator, I would lock the topic on segregated forums.

Thank you for your time!

Okay, so why would you do that? What is it that you find so objectionable about this thread? And why are you so uncomfortable discussing this in open forum?

It's not that I don't feel comfortable discussing things in this open forum. I just couldn't believe that an arguable thread was started.

Well, if the thread had no merit, I think their would be no interest. I think interest is the best measurement. We're not even talking about segregation now. We're talking about talking about segregation, and I think that's extremely worthwhile, so, with your permission, I'd like to share your two cents with everybody. Are you okay with that?

Yes, I think that's ok.

Why did I not think freedom of speech would be a danger in the first place?

I'm sorry!

That was before. Martin Luther King's segregation law stated that girls and boys could use the same bathrooms because that was a violation of human rights.

Today, the equal statement remains true, but the separate statement does not. Equality is a very important factor in our lifetime today, and it will remain true.
