I made a thread about this in The Haven, but thought it would be more appropriate here.

Last friday I went to see a psychologist who specialises in autism, I was sent there because of my apparent lack of motivation (in general but primarily in aquiring and holding work). I told him that I often don't see the point in doing things and will only do them if told to by someone I respect, love or feel indebted to.

To my surprise he said it has nothing to do with being demotivated and that it is because of my limited ability to predict the future. By that he meant that I need much more information than others in order to "see" what's coming and my fear of the unpredictable prevents me from participating in coming events that are "out of focus". So I let others lead me, I rely on their foresight because my own is so limited in comparison.

He said this is not uncommon for people on the spectrum, so I'm wondering if others here can relate.

You have a depressed unmotivated response, from multiple disappointments due to your autism.

$300 thanks

your two tiny threads might have just changed my life.
i'm too upset to post more right now.
i'm aware of the EF and ADD issue, but your psychologist made visible what this actually means.
thank you so much for sharing.

I definitely have trouble planning. I have some grand ideas for projects I want to do, but I am unable to plan them, so they don't ever get done.
