I'm too busy to be on here much but I do like to connect with people from time to time. Good to know this is here. I'm learning UX/UI design. Anybody do that?

Anyone want to talk about the stigma of being called "autistic", HFA, Asperger's, etc.? I'm quite content being HFA (diagnosed Asperger's but now called High Functioning Autistic) and talk openly about it with people. Their views, opinions, biases are their own and don't bother me. I want them to know, to know me and to help dispell the myth that we're emotionless, dysfunctional, disabled, etc. Yes, many social things are difficult for me but I can manage retail stores or education programs, teach, write, draw and do many other things. It's the stigma that creates the problem, not the autism. Another issue is honesty. Recent studies have shown that "neurotypical" people lie regularly and often. Little lies, mostly, but they do it and if I don't do it then it scares them. Their fear is also their own problem, not mine. Honesty is not brutal to me, nor is it unwelcome or socially inappropriate. We teach children not to lie because it's hurtful and leads to problems, yet adults who don't lie are ostracized, right? Confounding!

Too much emphasis on labels rather than actual individuals

Part of my morning went like this when I had gotten ready for work and was leaving the house. My wife had woken up but was still in bed looking at her phone. I walked in the room and the first thing I said was:

Me: "Jim Gaffigan (the comedian) says I'm fat."

Her: "What?!"

Me: "Jim Gaffigan says I'm fat. I watched one of his comedy things on Netflix last night and he said "This is what size 38 waist pants look like." I ordered 3 pair of 38" waist pants a few days ago to replace the ones that got stinky from mildew and I want to wash them in hot water to shrink them and not have to worry they'll be too tight. So he says he's fat and he wears 38" waist pants. I just ordered 38" pants so I'm fat? (as I look at myself in the bedroom mirror)"

Her: "You're not fat"

Me: "Ok, but he says he is and I've got the same size pants coming."

Her: "(sigh) I don't know if you're trying to be funny?"

Me: "No, I'm not, it was just something I was thinking about this morning. Gotta go (kiss) , bye, I love you."

That's a great thing to study. I used to think they were two mutually exclusive approaches to product development. There would be stacks of applications for it. What are you hoping to use it for?
