Basically I am already diagnosed AS/TS. I used to have a diagnosis of OCD but I've recovered from that now. The term 'borderline personality has been thrown around for a while, but I don't think I have that. I noticed though that a lot of the symptoms of 'borderline' that my psychologist was trying to point out that I have actually fit adult ADHD better than borderline. My psychologist seems to be against diagnosing anything that isn't horrendously debilitating and refuses to acknowledge my ADHD symptoms.

Basically I have had all the symptoms of ADHD primarily inattentive type since I was a little kid. I was a kid in the 90's and ADHD was only usually given to the most severe of cases back then. Basically ADHD without the H was unheard of (well in my area anyway!) and even my brother who had every ADHD symptom WITH the H was considered too calm for a diagnosis! (He climbed everything, could NEVER sit still... he was typical ADHD kid!)

Professor Mary Robertson (leading expert in TS unfortunately now retired) said she recognised the symptoms of ADHD in me at a conference about TS, but as she is no longer practising, she can't give me a diagnosis. As it is I am having huge trouble convincing the NHS that I am entitled to see a TS specialist! Unfortunately my ADHD symptoms do cause quite a lot of bother to me as I am unable to sit still for more than five minutes (although I can hyperfocus) and I am really easily distracted.

Also I don't know if anyone noticed, but I have a habit of going on and on for ages, flitting randomly from one subject to another!

Do you think I should push for a referral to the TS clinic and try and get a diagnosis of ADHD or should I just be completely ADHD and give up, accept that I have it (diagnosed or not) and get on with things? I'm not sure if I could do the latter because I am so determined that someone will diagnose me *sigh*

Why would you want to accept being ADHD? I'm going to a psychologist next week to talk to him about testing me for ADHD (and AS but I forgot to check and see if they specialize in ASD).
I have all the symptoms of ADHD and it drives me insane. No way could I just give up on it.

In fact for the past 10 years now I have refused to go see a psychologist/psychiatrist for anything because I didn't want to be "that person who takes pills or seems crazy". Plus I have an extremely difficult time verbally explaining how I feel and I keep thinking in the back of my mind that no doctor will take me seriously if I do try to explain how I feel. And now that I'm finally acknowledging that I do have a problem all I'm getting now from family and friends is "it's all in your head".
