My nephew is currently 2.5 years old. His behavior is certainly not typical and it is quite obvious that there is something psychologically going on that should be looked at. The problem is that my nephews parents refuse to acknowledge that there is anything abnormal about him.

In any case I am trying to figure out what it is that my nephew has, and would like some other opinions. Here are some of the symptoms I have observed...

- Delayed speech development
- Poor motor skills, lack of coordination
- Extremely disobedient - he almost comes off as though he desires negative attention
- Very selective with food and often smells his food before eating it

These are the main ones I can think of right now, what do you guys think

Those behaviors you explain certainly fit Asperger's, but AS is much more than that. It can also be product of being a very spoiled kid. 2.5 years is too soon to get a diagnosis, and if his parents are in denial there is nothing you can do. Just keep watching and supporting. If it is really something it will come out by school-age (about 5 or 6 years-old).
