Isao Tomita's first encounter with synthesizer music was when he went to Osaka in 1969, on a job contract to record music for EXPO'70.. While visiting an import record store, he found a newly released album called "Switched On Bach"(1968) featuring a Moog Modular III-C Synthesizer played by none other than Walter (now Wendy) Carlos. .. Today that album is a great synth classic.. Anyway it influenced him so much that he soon got his very own Moog Modular III-P Synthesizer, and started along the wonderful path to Analog Heaven.

Not trying to be a pain in the ass, but you should REALLY get a REAL REAL synthesizer before you even start advising people on what they should or shouldn't like.

Not trying to be a pain in the ass, but you are attacking me for being subjective (which I will admit I was, my apologies) using subjectivity yourself.

I do albeit I really tend dancefloor, not at all in the pop-house-trance direction but rather really thick, vinylistic sounding stuff.

I grew up on 1997-98 techstep dnb so rolling techstep is really where my heart is still at. Crispy vintage cuts are also great, jazz (Roni, Die, Suv, Krust - by extension Scorpio, Swabe, Gang Related & Mask), anything that has some depth and epicness to it. I suppose it would be fair to say when I mention 'vynilistic' I love my electronics concrete and urban. There was also something about the sort of angles that Metalheadz pulled on Platinum Breakz I - ie. atmospheric in a very chromed-out and classy way where everything was very grown-up and adult in its emotional texture and balance - Medschool and Absys don't do terribly bad at that currently, microfunk can be incredibly good albeit its still hit and miss.

There's also plenty of newer stuff I still like even if it's somewhat left that medium. For instance from 2007-2009 dark dnb got particularly creative again and this time it really pushed the eerie/translucent/etherial night-time sort of direction. That whole starry, electrical, apparitional type feel is awesome, ie. seems to really bore into the QM and spirituality of things. Always felt like any heavily mixed genre that broke off the 4/4 (ie. trip hop and some dubstep also) can really bring some profound ideas together in such a way where the level of reverence in it just gives you chills.

As far as dubstep there was a particular set of the genre, also 2007-2009, that had a very artschool feel to it, made you feel like you were hearing an early 1910's/1920's Barcelona art exhibit on audio where the whole thing just dripped acrylic off a surrealist or cubist's brush. Really tough to explain that in any cleaner terms - raw literalists sorry, I can't help you.

Yeah like you said, I also have to admit I lost feeling with the dark dnb coming out after 2006 until I got in touch with the donny and katharsys filthcast mixes which basically drove me back to the style full force to the point I literally collected all the filthcast and metalcast mixes available to collect.

Especially the new resonance effect thing they do to the snares really turns me on as it adds a certain (before unfelt) drive to the rhythm making the drums even sound punchier and groovier than they ever were before.

Sounds like you're saying something quite the opposite. You like the near-heavy metal side of dark dnb (ie. Current Value, Tech Itch, etc.), I tend toward the more soulful side of it (ie. Sabre, Consequence, Icicle, Mortem, Alix Perez, Genotype, D-Bridge, Loxy, etc.) thus we had pretty much the opposite view of that time period.

But you did mention being a fan of the 2005-2006 dark dnb back when it was 2005-2006, or was I mistaking? And that the year after, you became sick of it because it went all minimal and technoid-influenced?
