Socially, it has cost me.

In terms of having my own business based on an obsessive interest... it has certainly helped. But this is not an aspect of life which has much importance to me. My curse is that I really want to be around people, and be accepted by them, able to interact with them freely.

Yes, Asperger's has worked to my advantage. I love my special intense interests---I have acquired several very valuable things as a result of these interests. For example:

*master dub reel of a gold record
*piece of fabric off the German airship the Graf Zeppelin
*original roller coaster blueprints and house blueprints
*autographed copy of the Amityville Horror signed by George and Kathy Lutz
*several custom built (museum quality) HO scale houses
*large collection of keyboards, magic illusions, HO scale models, etc.
*large collection of dulcimers (hammered and mountain)
*many other things

Asperger's/autism has given me the gift of being a talent savant in music. I can play any musical instrument (without lessons and in little time) that I become fascinated with.

I was obsessed with triangles at one point, so I got pretty good at math for awhile.
Despite everything that happened to me today, I'm in an especially good mood right now. 8)

When in doubt, ask someone with ASD. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.
