California is the last place I ever wanted to live, but here I am! The food and weather is superb, that's for sure. It's like an entirely different world compared to my old home in Ohio. Being with someone you love definitely helps the transition.

As for the OP, I'm not too sure you are going to find a suitable place unless you are willing to compromise a little. I'm not sure why you want to move to the states, but to me, everywhere is just the same book, but different cover. Good luck!

It's the greenery that appeals to me... where I live it's a desert...

A large portion of California is desert.

Both, really. Santa Cruz is a nice place. So is San Francisco. Personally, I like Half Moon Bay.

California has a wide range of climates. A bit of something for everyone, really.

... I need to get out of Silicon Valley.

Such a dumb map. Also I live in Washington where it isn't always rainy. It rains more in Hawaii than in Washington.

this is true, except in Hawaii its still sunny while it rains and then you have to deal with the entire day being muggy and you get sweaty. not fun.

YOu should move to Oregon if your looking for a nice, green, quiet place but personally I love the San Fransisico Bay area...its got everything you want in one spot.

I don't find the joke funny. I live in a state where tv shows attack us for always being rainy. I find it immature.

You shouldn't take it so personally IMHO. My state arguably get's mocked on TV more than the rest, but no one here cares (and yes, they watch TV here).
