I've been recently getting into drum and bass (DNB) - I listened to some before back in high school (6 years ago) but that stuff was just hard and fast but no soul.

The recent style of DNB ive recently stumbled across is so full of energy, and it has more of what I enjoy about the song in comparison to dubstep where the focus is on the crazy "Wumpwumpwumpwuwumpwuwuwuwuwumpwumpwuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuumpwuwuwumpwumpwump" The DNB i'm specifically interested in has more focus on the tune/vocals/melody, like the following:

bass is just right, catchy tune's/melody/vocals, full of energy, great for working for jogging or working out at the gym. Anyone else in to DNB? And if so, what is the type of DNB I'm now hooked on? I know there are many types after all.

I'd call this 'Jump Up', but I'm no expert. It almost has that happy hardcore kind of vibe. I'm not too keen on it meself.

Probably best to let someone who's actually heard a drum n bass record in the last 2 years tell ya

I loved it indeed! The original track grew old for me the third listen but when remixed like this it's not so bad, the dubstep bits could be a shortened a tad or not be so repetitive sounding. I would love to here a Remode remix of this track from Skrillex.

Is "gold-dust" the name of the original song he is sampling/remixing? I love it but for some reason it sounds so familiar, like I've either heard the original, or this song remixed somewhere. For a second there, I also thought it was Bodyrox's "Yeah Yeah"

I'm getting the sense that it is that, happy hardcore lol. no one's example of D&B so far sounds anything remotely similar and I'm having a hard time finding more tunes like my examples; either its a new style or just a tiny subgenera within drum and bass.

Never heard of it. I've heard of jazz guys who do just drum and bass but not a genre dedicated to it.

The electric bass was my first love.

I bought a cd once from hot-topic when I was 16 or 17 (7 or 8 years ago) and can say the genera has changed so much with advancements in engineering sound know-how's. The style I post is one of the many variations of DNB though the most common kinds I hear are far more minimal and borrow less heavily from other genera's of electronica (namely house, electro, trance, and dubstep).

I do play electric bass (barely) for my brother. We have jam sessions and he shows me the fingerings that compliment his chord progression when we make dub or reggae. It is one of the five instruments I hope to play well by the end of the decade (the others being the Cello or violin, banjo, piano, and regular guitar.)
