It's all an unfortunate side effect of group mentality. Look it up some time.

If a leader of a social group is immature, no matter how mature the followers, they will agree with the immature viewpoint and raise hell over it. If people stop thinking about men and women for a moment, you will notice that the whole problem goes away. Whenever people think in a group, they give up what makes them most valuable and intelligent, their individuality.

When two groups go to war, no one really wins. It's a zero sum game.
