Okay, the reason I was asking is because I live in Los Angeles, and as far as resources/advocacy for adults with autism goes, there is next-to-NOTHING available from all the searching I've done. For example, the only "social skills" learning program (UCLA Semel Institute PEERS program) I could find has an age cut-off of 24. (I'm a few years older, and I doubt I could do enough begging/pleading for an most-likely bureaucratic organization to make an exception for me)
I attend a large public university, and while my campus had an "autism awareness" campaign last spring (in conjunction with "Autism Speaks") and while some people got involved I can't help but wonder if it was for extremely superficial reasons (specifically, there was some fundraising contest for "Autism Speaks" going on awhile back, which probably just people's love of competition) Again, I think most people got involved just to pad their future resumes/grad school applications - these people would probably run from or ostracize a person who came up to them and admitted they were autistic.
I would like to get involved and do something, which is why I asked about the ACLU. It would be nice to do something on my own, but I am only one person, and I cannot (especially as one with Asperger's) get something off the ground by myself.
