Urban Environment vs. Rural Environment: Which is Better?

I've lived in 8 different places in 17 years, and from experience, I can say with absolute certainty that rural areas are in fact better. Just make sure it's not too rural of an area, septic tanks are no fun.

That's another perk I forgot to mention. When I was living in Minneapolis, there were two guys I frequently saw on my bus route. One of them had a pink mohawk and wore what looked like a leather kilt, and the other was the world's worst transvestite – an obviously masculine man who looked as if he just grabbed the first dress and wig he found. I remember thinking to myself, "How wonderful it is that these guys can walk down the street or get on a bus and nobody even seems to notice them. I'll never be a weirdo here."

The whole thing about being anonymous in a city is total crap. I haven't noticed one slight difference. Even in small towns there's thousands of people, you still have plenty of anonymity.

You are right about that. Small town and country people are also more friendly, which I personally like, than those in the city. However, for an aspie, you may prefer someone who just wants to cut to the chase. As an added bonus, urban areas have everything located close by, and it's hard to get bored in the city. If I were you, I'd choose the city.

I prefer living in a city, which I finally do live in.....mostly because there is usually something to do, and its probably easier to meet people(though I have not been doing much of that yet.). But I also like being away from cities where you can see the stars and enjoy the quiet. I do have a friend that lives in the mountains outside the city so i sometimes hang out there when I want to get away for a few days.

I prefer living in rural areas.
I find it quieter on the whole, less crime (particularly low level stuff), fewer people are 'in your face', less stress, less pollution.
Having said that, I still like to be within relatively easy access of a decent size town or city, for the facilities they offer.
I'm currently 7 miles from a town and 20 miles from a city (Sheffield and Derby).

I live a 10 minute walk from the street regarded as the centre of my city.
The street I live on is a quiet, tree lined street.
I'm lucky to have the best of both worlds.

I don't drive so I would have to say urban environment. The people are more open to people with differences too.

I am a 10 min walk from my Doctor
I am a 30 min walk from 3 super markets
I am a 20 min walk from 2 emergancy care facilities
1 am a 30 min walk from my bank
I have a Thai resteraunt across the street
I have an Italian restraunt at the end of the street
I have a sub/pizza/wings shop on the end of the street
There are over 20 fast food/wing/sub/pizza shops all over the place
I am a 30 minute walk from 3 post offices
I am a 15 min walk from a firestation
I am a 40 min walk from another firestation
I am a 30 min walk from the police station
I am a 30 min walk from a Walmart
I am a 45 min walk from a K-Mart/Kohls/Target
I am a 30 min walk from a movie theater

I could never say this about a rural area.

This is what I mean about the best of both worlds. I have quiet place in the centre of the city - it gives me the peacefulness that I need. Yet I can walk everywhere.
We moved into the city for exactly this reason - driving was too stressful for me.

I am a 5 minute walk from my doctors surgery.
I am a 5 minute walk from the police station.
I am a 45 minute walk from work.
I am a 10 minute walk from a cinema & shopping centre
I am 10 minute walk from an amazing, beautiful, city park
I am a 30 minute walk from my dentist (but there are closer)
I am a 30 minute walk from the hospital
I am a 2 minute walk from a corner shop which sells all the essentials
I am a 10 minute walk from a large supermarket
I am a 30 minute walk from a 2 giant supermarkets (actually, more than this if you consider heading in the other direction as well..)
I am a 5 minute walk from a pharmacy
I am a 5 minute walk from the nearest take away, which happens to be Chinese (I love Chinese food), but there are dozens of different types of takeaway within a 15 minute walk.

Plus:
I am a maximum 10 minute walk away from bus stops which will take me to anywhere in the city that I can't walk to in a reasonable time.
I am a 10 minute walk from the train station, if I want to visit another town.

I am within easy reach of beach and countryside by walking or public transport.

Yup it's pretty good. I have to agree with Todesking. I have a lot more independence in the city than I did when I didn't live in the centre of it. It is liberating. And people don't care so much if you don't talk to them.
