I use very strong ("50 Volume") hydrogen peroxide bleach, meant for off-scalp use only:

It does burn mildly, but nothing I can't tolerate.

I mix it with "Lightener" to make the concoction that you see on my head in this photo:

And going blond has the added advantage of being a sort of "warning" that "something is up with this guy", perhaps steeling new acquaintances to better tolerate the other weird aspects of my being.
