Insects. Entomology. Specifically, why people seemed to dislike them so much.

Calendars. Seriously. I was quite young (primary school age) when I was working out the day of the week a date fell on. Still doing it 6 months away from my 40th.

Collecting bottle caps. I had seen a photo of an African person who made a skirt out of strings of bottle caps and wanted one. I never made a skirt, but I collected a lot of caps and talked about it a lot. Was also fascinated by wheelchairs and safes.

I don't know, because I'm not clear on what makes something a "special interest".

Is the defining characteristic of a "special interest" the amount of time you spend pursuing it? Does it have to involve acquiring knowledge about a topic? An "interest" as I understand the word could be cloud-watching, but a person doesn't have to think nor conceptually learn about cloud-watching to pursue it as an interest (do they?)....

My baby book (which reads like a mystery novel) listed only one interest... Legos! I am not sure when that was written in there but I kept that interest until middle school I believe.
