of having posted them? I realize when I go back to reading my posts that some of them were really silly and want to edit and I can't and then I'm just pissed.

Idk but it sure is interesting that they chose that number 9999...hmmm :chin: Well at least they didn't pick 6666  Though part of me seems to think it is one of those data entry limits (because of the certain amount of characters). For instance, some calculators will only have enough room for 8 digits, so the biggest number you can produce is 99,999,999 (disregarding scientific notation because I doubt many websites take advantage of that). It probably had a limit of 4 digits.......at least, that's my guess.

Even with scientific notation, the highest number possible on most calculators is 9.9 x 10^99

But, the ratio of an atom to the size of the universe is only 1 : 10^40, so anything higher than that is already a bit ridiculous.

9999 minutes is just under a week. So the forum software gives you nearly a week's leeway.

I don't understand it myself, but I believe it has something to do with trolls.

It's so that a troll can't get away with posting something inflammatory or insulting, wait for people to retaliate, and then go back an edit the post so that it looks all nice and innocent to the mods.

You have 6 days, 22 hours, and 39 minutes to review and edit a post; what more do you want?

because during those minutes, if you did not think of a reason to edit your post, then your post was very likely your true sentiment at the time you wrote it.

you can not go back and edit what you did earlier in your life. 9999 minutes is enough time to decide whether you really mean something you said or not. after that it is concrete.

The only time I ever really edit posts is if I make a grammatical error or want to add a little note or something to the end of it. Editing posts seems like a strange idea other than that. Once someone replies you could totally change the flow of the conversation by being able to go back and modify your post.

Just that I feel like I've said too much about myself than I would like to share during the flow of that moment and want to delete it.
