Zionism doesn't really have much of a basis in the religion. Its only real link is the claim to the land where Israel is based on 2 old jewish kingdoms.

I would say its abit harsh to call it the equivilant of national socialism. Its more nationalism in the sense of people saluting the flag, singing the stars-spangeled banner and having an identity in the culture and "race" of being jewish. There is alot of contraversy with zionists pre world war 2 and their involvement with the Nazi's in getting european jews emmigrated to British controlled palestine and its origins and relavance to the religion. You find some of the most bitter critics of it are orthodox jews.

Their is this silly conspiracy theory/anti-semetic BS about this all controlling jewish new world order that gives you the impression the jewish people are some en masse borg collective who control everyone else. But when you look at the world wide jewish population you realise there very much a divided people within themselves. Many differnt ethnicities not just the stereotypical Ashkenazi and the majority of jewish people live outside the state of israel not everyone bought into it with the 1948 war

You said it yourself. Israel is as a state based on the Jewish race [how a race now is defined]. In the rest, I am agreeing with you.
