I don't buy lottery tickets very often, simply because the odds of winning anything substantial are abysmally small. I buy a ticket sometimes when I'm in a really good mood, and a buck or two are burning a hole in my pocket.

I only buy scratch-and-wins, because you find out instantly. I never buy lotto, 'cause you have to wait to find out. Also, if you're familiar with combinatorics (a high-level branch of math), you'll see that the odds of winning don't warrant buying even one ticket.

I don't mind buying lottery tickets if I have a dollar or two to kill. A little chance is better than none, and if I have a little money extra, so be it.
