Sarcasm has no place in today's society.

Sarcasm sounds like a carcinogenic, artificial sweetener...

I hate, hate, hate sarcasm. Because it seems like a cowardly way to insult somebody. It's also never really funny most of the time, it's just really mean spirited. And people who use it frequently think themselves smarter than you, when they are really just smug as*holes who need to be told off. I can identify sarcasm most of the time, couldn't when I was younger, but I don't know how to respond to it. It is very hurtful.

I don't mind it sometimes but if it is obviously meant to hurt me or someone else I hate it. Sometimes I can't tell if people are being sarcastic or serious and I really hate sarcasm then.

I believe it was Mark Twain who said that "sarcasm is the lowest form of intelligence" and I totally agree with that statement.

From my standpoint sarcasm is very condescending. If someone asks a question there is no need to reply with a smartass answer.

Example:

1.
Guy: Have you eaten yet?
Me: nope
Guy: me and <name> are going to <restaurant> where are you going?
Me: I dont know
................................
Later I asked why I wasnt invited....he responded with "Because I am married"

I was very upset by that remark.

I know someone mentioned that they get annoyed when someone responds to a post with a witty/funny comment....I know I am super guilty of doing that, but I cant be serious all the time! Its only annoying to me when its an ongoing thing between a few individuals.

@Mego

What if it was a veiled compliment on your beauty.

And he meant to imply, that if he was seen dining out with such an attractive lady, it could cause marital repercussions.

After all if it was sarcasm it was a bit on the wishy washy limp side. He would have been better served with "Because I ALREADY have a wife" delivered with an edge of vitriol.
