I've gotten this a few times and it's a pet peeve of mine because it makes it sound like I don't have feelings.
Never a friend though, always someone I was in a relationship with (my ex and my now-partner) - they don't know how close they came to sleeping next to the computer monitor for a month.

When folks call you a robot you can tell them how run by their emotions they are. Granted I can't stand emotional people anyway.

Well was he being mean/mocking or was it just joking...people I hang around constantly make jokes about each other, and I certainly don't get left out but its in good humor. My one friend referred to me as a keebler elf, once when I had on this colorful jacket with a hood and he thought I looked like one I imagine my shortness also factors in.
