Yes.

I am a member of a union, and the union has had my back more than once in disputes with my employer (the Government of Canada).

Politically, though, I am Liberal (capital L), so in Canadian terms, I am a centrist.

I got no problems with them in a pinch. The only problem I have is with closed shop labour unions and those guys on the London Underground who demand £40,000 wages.

ruvyen seems to be using hyperbole
But there is the mafia has an interest in american trade unions.
I feel this is because of the choice of the government to favor mafia unions
at the expense of ideological ones during the red scare and cold war.

trade unionism - socialism = ?
the vacuum was filled to some extent by the mob.

remember in america our liberals are called Democrats not Labor.
this goes to my idea of american politics as the Right against the Center
or Hardliners vs Moderates.

How many Union presidents have gone to jail for corrupt practices and racketeering.

For example the Teamsters Union. Criminal to the core.
