6 B.S. Myths You Probably Believe About America's 'Enemies'

Quote:
Spend five minutes listening to politicians and pundits talk about countries like Iran and North Korea, and you walk away thinking the world is a scary place. But politicians have agendas, and pundits want viewers.

cracked.com is amazing. Both very funny AND very informative. Like, sure, you wouldn't want to use cracked.com for a research article, but what you area reading is a very informed article.

I appreciate the research that goes into their articles and the seemless transistion from facts and statistics to dick jokes.

The use of fact is why I use Cracked as a source of information occassionally. It's certainly more fair and balanced than fox news, except when fox news talks about child abuse. Then Fox News can actually be pretty good.

So does drinking bleach.

Anyway, 9 Major Stories Everyone Got Wrong This Year is pretty brilliant.

Funny story, I wrote for Cracked for approximately five minutes. Back when they were still a rip-off of Mad, back when there was actually a magazine instead of just a website, an editor sent some of my stuff to an illustrator to prepare it for publication. Just a few days later, they went out of business and the magazine was sold. Which is a shame, because I think the world really would have benefitted from my sh***y article about comic book movie cliches.

The hypefad and teabagger parts are a reminder that cracked is not to be taken seriously.

How about this: You rank it relative to other sources. The reason why is because "Don't take it seriously" is too vague. Cracked IS legitimately an information source. It's not as good as wikipedia, for instance, but it does not appear correct to say that one can't believe many of a cracked article's claims, so I would think one can take a lot of it seriously.

Information sources aren't just scholarly work or garbage. There is variation, and cracked is probably better than "I heard this from a buddy of mine", which is a common information source that people will take seriously.

Cracked's main objective is to entertain. You can like it, enjoy it and use it as a starting point for true information. But it is not meant for you to take it seriously, and you shouldn't.

Fair enough. I don't see the distinction between "starting point for true information" and "take it seriously" as significant, so this probably means that the dispute is now semantics and nothing more.
