Lyme's Disease

I heard that in some studies its a alarmingly high percentage of people with autism also have lyme's disease. That lymes disease is beleived by some medical professionals to be passed on through the semen because of lymes disease nature to go into every cell of the human body. What are your thoughts. For me personally this was startling because my dad has lymes and me and my brother have aspergers. Dads pretty aspie tho too but never diagnosed.

By Googling I found this website of people who think there is a connection.

But when I look at a map of where in the US Lyme disease is found, it doesn't match up with autism prevalence

Notice how in that map there is little Lyme disease in California because the ticks that transmit aren't found there much. I couldn't find a similar map for autism epidemiology but do know that rates in California are quite high.

If there really was a link, then the places that have the highest rates of Lyme Disease would also have the highest rates of autism. And that is apparently not so.

its interesting, but i think its pretty sketchy..

though i know lyme is common in the US, in most other countries its pretty rare- in the UK only 250 people a year get it, 90% of those contracting it while in the US.

i know this cos i was one of the few to get it in the uk, ha ha.

sorry- i dont think it bears out when the global footprint of lyme disease is compared to the pervasiveness of autism and ASDs.

The only thing I know about Lyme disease is that there are a lot of quacks preying on the people who have it--like, they'll put you on antibiotics for years and years even though you don't need it and it won't do you any good; or they'll sell you expensive and useless quack cures. I hope your dad hasn't got caught up in that; apparently it can drain your bank account in three seconds flat. So... I'd be careful about the sources of any claims I saw about autism and Lyme disease. They're both such huge quack targets that you've got to be absolutely sure that it's legit and backed up with quality research.

Kinda depressing that we have to watch out to be sure we aren't getting swindled by the people who are supposed to be helping us, isn't it? But there it is... sad but unfortunately true.

I don't believe Lyme is the only cause of Autism (obviously) but there is some pretty compelling evidence, in my opinion, that it can be a major contributing factor.

I had a bulls-eye bruise like that of the lymes one. I didn't look it up until a letter was sent home from school warning us to check because another boy on the trip had been bitten. But, I didn't get checked for it and my autistic mannerisms were present long before that.
