My dad lets his interest take over his life, which is football. His own son isn't interested in football but his nephew is, so he is more of like a father to his nephew than he is with his own son, just because his nephew likes football like him. His intense interest in football has come before his marriage and his kids, and he split up with my mum a long time ago because of it.

Asperger's?

How does this intense interest in football manifest itself?

I live in a culture where going to home and away games, watching football on TV, reading about it, talking about it, playing it once or twice a week etc is within the normal range of behaviour.

does he display other signs of aspergers? does he rock, have a detached look in his eyes, a monotone voice, hyperactivity, rage attacks, gets upset when his routine is disrupted, have a problem remembering faces, etc?
sounds like it might be asperger, though.

No, none of that. He just has an intense interest in football, more so than an average interest.
