I guess it would depend on boredom. If I somehow knew that I'd be able to maintain an interest or string of interests, that could be ok. But if it's 995 years of boredom, depression/anhedonia, and ennui (sp?), then no thanks.

Why isn't forever an option?

Yeah, I think we need: "0 years", and "Forever" options in the poll.

I think it can safely be said that anyone who claims he or she wants to continue to exist for an infinite amount of time doesn't grasp the concept of infinity.

That contradicts the second law of thermodynamics. All living things are heat engines.

ruveyn, what about organisms that can't auto-regulate their own body temperature? (if any such exist)

Exactly what does an organism's ability, or lack thereof, to thermoregulate have to do with whether the second law of thermodynamics applies? By definition all living things must do work; therefore, all living things are subject to the second law of thermodynamics.

Ha. No, I'm perfectly fine with being an infinite tape loop, an long as I'm happy. Which, for all we know, the universe itself might be.

Do I get to be young? If so, I will take those 1000 years please. I don't even see why this is a debate. Life is great, even when it's awful.

I'd like to live until I decide I'm done. It would be interesting to see how far I get.

I do. It would keep small children away from me. Mwahahahaha!

I could also work as a Keith Richards impersonator.

It is completely unnatural and physically impossible. The world will end before then.
If the the sun doesn't destroy the earth nuclear weapons will first.

who are you to say whats unnatural or physically impossible? are you even aware that jellyfish are biologically immortal? jellyfish cannot die of aging. they said it was physically impossible for humans to fly so we created the plane, isnt that unnatural? less than 1000 years ago the average lifespan was 35, now its 80. if you were dying wouldn't you accept life support if it meant you could live longer to see your kids have kids? isn't that unnatural? since when has natural had to do with anything humans did? almost everything about modern society is unnatural from the processed food we eat to the cars we drive and even to the AC in our house and cars

1000 years and 80 years say nothing by themselves.

I would totally go and live 1000 years, IF the last 975 years of them I had the body and mental health I have in my 25s AND also my family lived as much.

Otherwise, it would be dumb.
