I talk to my GF on the phone a lot, but sometimes I run out of things to say and I sort of panic - I feel like I need to be at least mildly entertaining 100% of the time, but some times I just can't manage it and it makes me feel like a failure - it even scares me a little bit.

What do you say when you don't have anything interesting/stupid/clever/boring to say?

Or is is OK to say nothing?

Yep, put the phone down.

I don't think there's anything more uncomfortable than someone straining a performance all the time.

Why do you feel you need to be entertaining 100% of the time?

It's his job, he's a senior stand up comedy man.

A lot...as in more than once a day? I think more than once a day is too much - you're bound to run out of things to say. Also - once a day is too much.

unless it's long distance or you're paying for minutes, there's nothing wrong with a pause for reflection. my husband and i are both quiet people. we often eat most of dinner together in silence. we're comfortable with that.

You indulge in a comfortable silence with the other.

That's like $8333 per month. Just imagine you're benefiting half of that income, smudge.

Is she doing a lot of the talking as well, or is it mostly on you? It's hard when two people aren't engaged equally and one person has to do all the work to keep the conversation going.

Yes, she is - I just talked to her about the issue and found out that once again I was making a huge deal out of nothing.

I'm such a noob at this...
