I think I am disabled.
I also think that my strengths and disabilities are tied very closely together: for example, my difficulty seeing the big picture is tied to my excellent perception of details. My difficulty in generalising is useful in situations where things differ from the general case.
My lack of social inclination causes problems where socialisation is required, but it also makes me more likely to focus on other, possibly more important tasks.
Different sides of the same coin. It makes the question of a cure a complicated one.
Hi, yes very much indeed, the problem with adding more options onto the poll is that everyone is going to draw the line differently, you may say that some don't need a cure but that someone "more autistic" may need one as they are suffering, but bear in mind that a neurotypical person may say that they don't need a cure but that all autistics do because they are suffering, they may think protests of not suffering and of having a sound neurology just stem from the ego and a lack of desire to accept being defective. And so you see it can make almost anyone appear a hypocrite to draw a line, especially if they are behind it. I can definitely see your point though that you could draw the line so that those "suffering" are in front of it and those not suffering behind it, but the problem is how do you work out how someone really feels and if any suffering is innately caused by their neurology itself rather than their environment, you could interpret many things such as seclusion as suffering but it may not be the case. Also you have to consider that if there was a "cure" and a line drawn, the line would likely move to cover many autistics who genuinely aren't suffering from autism even if there are some who are suffering because of their neurology, the cure would also be given to people without their consent such as children, adults who can't speak for themselves and also unborn children. So as you can see it is very complicated and all of this is too much for one poll, however you can take all of this into consideration in your answer to whether you think there should be a cure or not. Ultimately though, for this poll I am most interested in the opinion of the individual to whether they think that they themselves need a cure or not.
