I'd imagine unsubstantiated optimism would be painful.

Pessimists might be able to out live optimists in linear time, but optimists will outlive pessimists in no time.

Speaking of winter, as a man who lives in a city with REAL winters (Winnipeg), I wonder how uncharacteristic of me it is that I cycle in the winter. On the one hand, the dangers of winter cycling are quite overstated, on the other hand there still are some dangers to it.
