MTV played music
Mrs. Butterworth's syrup contained butter.
Videogames had realtime-generated audio tracks, and didn't just spool lame pre-recorded music from the hard drive.
TVs did real Faroudja motion-vector deinterlacing instead of faking it by bobbing the odd & even scanlines together, then resampling the blurry mess to the desired resolution.
You could still buy lawn darts at flea markets, and you could play with them in the back yard without getting reported to the police.
Cell phones had external antenna stubs that worked, instead of internal low-gain antennas that cause 3-6dB attenuation if you hold the phone in a way that's comfortable.
Laptops had volume dials that could be instantly flicked to "off" if your computer started making noise somewhere inappropriate. God, I hate 100% touch-based controls
You could read benchmarks & specs for a specific Intel CPUs, and know they applied to other Intel CPUs of the same part number. Now, Intel markets all but their most expensive Xeon CPUs by "performance class" and guarantees nothing. One might have 3 cores & 32kb level 1 cache, another with the exact same model # & stepping might have 4 cores, but only 8k L1, slower FSB, and higher multiplier.
