I feel obliged to post a follow-up here, as I am still bemused about how things turned out.

First week: PURE HELL. Holding him down while he's kicking and screaming, and we squirt the medicine down his throat. After we finish, he stalks around the living room weeping and declaring that "Medicine is DISGUSTING!"

Beginning of second week: He'll reluctantly stand there and let us dose him, pulling the syringe out every few seconds to see how much is left. Medicine, he continues to assure us, is DISGUSTING.

Middle of second week: He starts reminding us to give him his doses. He still checks the syringe fairly often, and gets a drink right after he swallows each bit, but no more complaining about the taste.

End of second week: We're done. We've completed the course of medicine. He gets upset when we throw out the empty bottle, and declares that he wants his medicine.

There's a lesson here. I'm just not sure what it is.
