While this speech has some lofty goals and bold ideas, it will likely fade away very soon like the SOTU speech in 2011.

A lot of it was things he was saying when he first got elected. I like how he promised to "protect the internet" :lol:

Promises aren't too valuable. They weren't in 2008 or in SOTU 2010/2011.

SOTU is pretty pointless to watch, it feels like Obama gives one every few weeks. I was hoping someone would yell something again and make it interesting.

Having a population that will shut up and do what you're told is a lot more valuable. To a select few, of course.

[opinion]

"Fairness" =/= "Equality"
"Equality" =/= "Justice"
"Justice" =/= "Fairness"

I think you all underestimate the degree to which tax will serve as a means to capture the Zeitgeist.

Consider facing Romney in the autumn: "I paid 25% tax on my income. What did you pay?" That is an enormously powerful message, with the power to resonate in the places where it counts: Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan and their ilk.

I see this as the opening salvo of the 2012 campaign. Republican candidates will be forced to trip over themselves in their hurry to denounce a minimum 30% tax for the highest earners, and the line will then be drawn. I think Republicans may yet find themselves on the wrong side of this issue.

People with both power and money. They can no longer lose.
