A friend of mine was walking down a deserted Mexican beach at sunset. As he walked along, he began to see another man in the distance. As he grew nearer, he noticed that the local native kept leaning down, picking something up and throwing it out into the water. Time and again he kept hurling things out into the ocean.

Making a Difference

Hey, they ripped that off from Loren Eiseley's essay "The Star Thrower," which he also used for a book title.

"Produced by the Zen Buddhist order of Hsu Yun"

What can you expect from a japanese order with a chinese name?

By the way, Loren Eiseley totally rocks. Best thinker in the history of the western hemisphere and a damn fine writer.

Did you say that wasn't proper? Did you march out on the track?

Well thank you buddy for your advice...

Yeah, I knew I had seen it elsewhere before.

It's a Chinese order. Zen is english for Chan.

It's not just the Japanese that do that.

Some cultures seem to specialize in it. I understand the navajo are the same way. Nothing wrong with it. Of course, the chinese didn't invent buddhism either.

To paraphrase Ross Perot, if the other guys are doing something better than you, look at the way they're doing it.

Those kinds of cultures often vastly improve things too, like japanese swords, cars, and electronics.
