Does anyone here have tinnitus? I have it all the time but I don't pay attention and today it is stronger than usual and it's driving me nuts! I think when I don't sleep well during the night, it is worse the next day.

I hate Tinnitus. Both my boyfriend and I have it. Apparently its very common in people with hypersensitive hearing.

I literally start hitting my ears sometimes to try to make it go away.

I get it every once in a while, but it's not a huge problem right now. I just hope it doesn't get worse, I can't stand that sound!

I had tinnitus since I was a kid, I can't imagine my life without hearing that hissy noise in my head 24/7.

Yeah, but it's not related to an ASD.

Mine was from acoustic trauma; it's there and loud all the time. You get used to it (it's an old friend now).

Yup, had for as long as I can remember. Most of the time I don't notice it much but it can get annoying at night when I am trying to sleep. I read an article some time back where some researchers put sound deadening headphones on a series of test subjects with and without tinnitus. They were told that the headphones were making a noise and were asked what it sounded like. In fact the headphones were not connected to anything. Most subjects reported they could hear a whine or hissing noise.

The conclusion the study came to was that most of us have tinnitus to a certain extent but for some of us it is louder or we simply notice it more.

Occasionally, seems to be associated with stress.. Sometimes I'm never sure if it isn't a switching power supply or a light or something though..

I have experienced this ringing in my right ear, and I can imagine that it would suck if it were there a lot or always there.

When I was little, I used to have pulsating tinnitus, which is not a ringing, but a whooshing through your ears during certain poses, such as lying down for bed.

I have intermittent tinnitus in my right ear from a mild case of Meniere's Disease. Usually it's a low pitched buzzing sound, but it can be high pitched at times too. Some days the tinnitus is really bad, other days I don't have it all. It tends to come and go in phases. On occasion I can get some mild vertigo and dizziness as well, usually at night. I had one spell of severe vertigo about 2 years ago that sent me to the ER, but it has not happened like that since then. Hopefully it won't happen again anytime soon. Despite it being a fairly common condition (about 1 in 500 according to some estimates), doctors are utterly clueless about it. I went to see several prominent ear specialists in NYC and Boston, but got the "deer in the headlights" look and shrugs each time. Doctors really don't know anything do they?

Yeah. It's apparently a rare side-effect of an antidepressant (which is ironically sometimes used to cure tinnitus). It doesn't bother me too much, though. It's not very severe.

When I was a kid my dad (who was half-deaf) fired his hunting rifle about 4 feet (laterally) from my head before I could stick any fingers in my ears. For about 20 minutes afterwards, I could see his mouth moving when he talked but could only hear "ooooooooooooo..." (like a 440Hz sine wave).

yup, i think almost everyone who has used earphones will have it. I now have nice in ear earphones and also large open headphones so i never need to crank it up as much as i did when i was younger.

it rarely notice it. I often get what i would say is analogous to clipping in my right ear when people talk loud in small space and occasionally at gigs. I also get a stress induced whine which is louder and clearer. A few calming breaths usually gets rid of that within a few seconds

Ah, so that's it. Acuteness of the hammers and anvils.

I've always had it in both ears as far as I can recall.

I got tinnitus after chemo therapy (CHOP) six years ago. I forget about it most of the time. It sounds like this, but without the high notes.
