I have the worst fear of the dark EVER. If it's dark I hyperventalate, scream, and nearly kick someone's arse until I get the light on. I can get really bad in the dark, I panic a LOT worse than a kid panics in the dark. I keep the closet light on every night, hardly sleep, and don't feel safe AT ALL from when the sun sets to when it rises. I used to not be this bad, when I was REALLY little I wasn't as afraid of the dark. But now, because of my fear, I have to sleep a certain way every night, if I sleep alone I face the wall. If I'm with a friend they're on the outside of the bed and I'm nearest to the wall. If the bed is in the middle of the room, I don't feel safe unless I'm sandwiched in between two people. I cover my whole body with a blanket, sometimes even my head. I hate wearing pajamas that show too much skin, normally I wear pajama pants or really long shorts. I HATE wearing nightgowns (I'm female, by the way) if I wear them, I feel like I might start to panic.
I have no idea why I'm this afraid but I am. What do you guys think? Does this have a name?

There is a name for it, as with most phobias, but I can't remember what it is.

What are you afraid will happen in the dark?

Whenever my bed was against a wall (through my whole life), I wanted the side next to the wall too.

My fiance deals with similar fears. It's because his father was an as*hole who told him that there really were monsters under the bed.

I've never met that man and I hope I never do.

I had the same problem as a kid. It never really go away until i reached about 16. fortunately it ain't a problem anymore, i just had to get over those fears. it took a while, but i got over it. Talking about it to someone and trying to understand the cause behind it could help you in trying to overcome it.
