Strange Shop Assistants

I've just been out to looking for some new shoes to go to a wedding.
I saw a pair that looked just right and asked the assistant if she had them in a size 7. She went to the store room, came back and said 'we've not got them in a seven but we have got a size 6 will they do? Like, er, no. Not unless I have a centimetre surgically removed from my toes.
How odd.

Anyone else encountered a shop assistant who has tried to sell you something completely unsuitable?
