HELP! Need assistance wh diagnosis, do I have it, or am I NT

Hello fellow Aspies,

I just want to start out saying you guys are badd@zz, and after researching Aspergers I most definitely can honestly say that I might have it. I will get to my point as to why I believe it now. The only reason I have not been diagnosed because it is very hard to schedule an appointment in GA, most of the doctors there will only see children.

My Beliefs of why I think I may have it.

Women hate me, I mean they really do hate me, but only the ones that know me. They say I can not talk to women in a correct way, but the funny thing is I have no idea of what they are talking about when I ask them to explain it. They say I don't seem to understand, when I ask understand what, they beat around the bush and won't tell me directly as to what the heck they are talking about. I know they communicate in allot of non verbal ways, if I do have AS, then I am indeed screwed. They always say that I talk and care about things that no one else cares about.

Other things that have made me think.

I have a 12 year old soon, that was diagnosed with servere Autism when he was 3, after reading that it may be genetic, it made me think about all the Men on my dads side on the family. But the only puzzling thing that confuses me, none of their traits they display seem like AS, they seem geared at more of a mental illiness then anything, and their problems increases with age. I looked at my childhood also, about 1 main friend my whole entire life, my grades were horrible, but I heard that some AS children were really smart in school and made very good grades. I however failed kindergarten, who fails kindergarten? I barely passed 5th grade, teachers tried to get my mother to put me in a slower learning class in 8th grade, and finally failed 9th grade 3 times in a row. Then I dropped out, 2 years later I passed the GED test with an extremely high score, "weird". - Now, during these current days, I am however stilll having trouble, I work for a Human Resources department for a govt company. I am very good at paper work if my mind is not focused on some of the outside projects that I like doing. My main problem, is, it is very hard for me to remember things that are important. When people walk into my office with an issue, if they are not direct with what they need, then my mind will automatically drift in and out of the conversation, OR, I will try to listen so hard, my brain will automatically key in on one specific word. For example, Hello, sir, I have a problem with my pay, as I was eating lunch, and looking at my pay, and got attacked by a LION, and his conversation keeps going, my brain has stopped listening and keyed in on LION, now I can visually see the lion attacking this poor man, I have no idea what else he has said.


Things that constantly run through my mind, more questions than anything, or a logical answer that just leads to another question that makes my head hurt worse, but the thirst for knowledge can't be heathly at the rate I am consuming it.

How come people don't think nothing I talk about is interesting, Scientist have found out that the universe is expanding at the speed of light, what is it expanding into??? Is religion just an emotional belief used to keep normal people sane, why does the word religion even exist? I am not indicating that there is not a supernatural being that created this world, I believe there is. To me religions might be formed by disagreements between men who interpret the bible on beliefs differently, which is fine, but how can people accept that their religion was a result of a dispute between men who thought one was right, and the other was wrong. If you think logically, with Infinite, and Finite, and our Universe is Finite, if the big bang theory is correct, then what ever created the universe must be Infinite. Moving on, Politics, I am not involved in them in any way, because I can't understand them, the logic with Politics only confuses me. To me, Dems and Rep's kind of remind me of 2 people that like the same sandwich, but with different toppings, one might like peanut butter only, and the other one might like jelly only, but neither of them seems to like peanut butter and jelly. lol - Seems like both sides fail to see that they may lack in a certain area that the other excels in, with this in mind, it makes it very difficult to choose sides because both of them are good at something the other is not. Moving on, we call ourselves Aspies, and others NT, how do we know were not the NT's and they are the Aspies, because a man said so??? How can one say it is a disorder, how do the so called NT's know that there is something wrong with them instead, and we are the normal ones. Just saying .

My question to the awesomeness of aspies, am I weird, do I have issues, do you guys think about things like this? I hope so, then I will not feel so alone. Should I go get checked, by reading this, is it even worth it, it would give me a peace of mind knowing that all the years I have felt like this, there was always a good reason why. Or am I just obsessed with AS that I would like to be one too. I am going crazy everyday thinking about this, researching everyday, even days I don't want to, I research it anyway, I must make it stop. The earliest appointment I could get was for August this year Please help me, your thoughts.

You definitely seem at least a bit autistic to me! You say you have problems talking to people, that you don't know much about talking to women and don't know how to figure out what people find interesting to talk about; that seems like something that could be helped if you got some lessons in social skills. They do have those for autism-spectrum people; and a diagnosis would be a way to get them. So, yeah, I think you should try to see if you can get an evaluation. Start with your family doctor, explain that you think you may have AS and you want lessons in social interaction, and ask for a referral.

Totally agree with you about Democrats and Republicans. And quite an apt analogy too. Made me laugh. As a person who likes both peanut butter and jelly, I really wish they would get along and work together--with all this fighting, nothing's getting done!

Hi Alien100! Welcome to Wrong Planet. Check out the forums here. They are interesting and helpful.

You do sound like you are on the spectrum. There are several Autism/Asperger's tests online. I suggest you give them try. Then you can take the results to your GP doc and ask for a referral to an Autism specialist, as you would like some help with social skills.

You made some good points in the topics you covered, and I agree with, and was amused by your description of politics. I myself, follow it better, because my parents were involved in politics when I was a child, so I developed an interest in it. Personally, I don't like any of the current presidential candidates from either main party. I also don't like the perpetual pocket picking of tax payers to support non-essential programs, that is done by Senators and Representatives from both parties in DC.

Do give those online tests a try, and remember, you are among friends here at WP.

Thanks for the responses friends, I am glad I have someone to vent with now. This has been a gift & curse. I know I am weird, or whatever they want to call it, I can't help that I look at normal people as if they are science projects, and their behavior is intriguing, but only because it is not normal to me, thanks for the help.

Hehe, me too. I studied sociology, anthropology, and psychology in order to better understand people; and now I find them fascinating. I just hope they don't realize I am looking at them as though they were lab specimens. Of course I care about people a great deal more than I would about a guinea pig or a petri dish of bacteria, but I do love to learn about how the human brain works, and how cultures and societies develop, and how we learn about who we are and what our place is in the world.
