What makes music good in your eyes?

I like relatable lyrics that aren't too poetic, with a good bassline, a cohesive sound that all the instruments work together, not parallel to each other, and a range of styles. Multiple vocal styles is a plus.

I like lyrics, but lately I find myself really interested in musical 'style' (like I've said, I'm an aspiring guitarist, I just need the money for it).

I hate it when music gets in my eyes. Stings like hell.

That was precisely my reaction on glimpsing the title of this thread.

Heh, same. I just have to make it so we can have non-aspergian views on this too...I try to tread the lines so both can understand the ideas presented.

I have noticed most instrument players focus on what they enjoy doing in deciding to pursue music.

Hmm it's kind of hard to say, I guess it comes down to if I like how it sounds I enjoy it...depending on the genre I might get more specific than that.

That's a difficult question.
I'd say good music for me, personally, is music that "moves" me or "touches" me...intellectually, emotionally,rhythmically...
E.g. imagine a musical instrument, if it's being moved/touched (which basically means "played") you can hear sounds come out of it.
If this happens, then music is good for me.

I would not say " I look at this, this or that...", I don't like to confine myself because I found that there can be beauty (or other positive aspects) in a varied range of styles, shapes and forms which you wouldn't have thouht of before and even the outcomes and effects on yourself, may be things you never thought about.

Emotional impact

I'm pretty sure I've answered this before, but here goes again...

If I can feel it, it's good. Some music I feel for the lyrics, some for the instrumentals, and for some there's that something extra I can't explain.

I like lyrics that not overly sexual, that have too much swearing or talk of drug use (some is OK, but not like some of the music on the radio), faster, good beat, not screaming.

To clarify, if the song does have sexual lyrics, but if the music compontont (sp?), is good, then I will like the song. I just don't like some of the popular music they play on the radio these days because of that part, I also don't like the music part of them either.

yes exactly. it's a very subjective criterion though - I for one absolutely do not get why Adele's music makes people emotional; it leaves me completely cold. some of the music that I find really moving others find annoying/disturbing.

Good musicianship primarily, lyrics secondarily. It's hard for me to enjoy a song if the musicianship is good, but the lyrics are dumb, or the musicianship is poor, even if the lyrics are good. I like all but a few genres, at least to a degree.
