Dear fellow Autistics,

Please join the Autistic Self Advocacy Network (ASAN) to work on an autism acceptance project we're planning to release by mid-April 2012. We're turning April into Autism Acceptance Month! It's time to move beyond awareness. Will you help us? Here's what we have in mind:

Our project will consist of essays we'll be posting on a website for Autism Acceptance Month. The essays will be authored by Autistic self advocates, parents, and allies. Authors will touch on the subjects of self-advocacy, ethical research, neurodiversity, and much more! We're envisioning a broad overarching theme with personal voices, and we wish to especially focus on the theme, "What does autism mean to you?"

Here are some other possible questions you might like to answer:

* How do you relate to the Autistic community?
* How do you feel the Autistic community benefits self-advocates, family members and others?
* What kinds of issues should the Autistic community think about going forward?
* What does moving from awareness to acceptance mean to you?
* How can we improve the relationship between parents and self-advocates in the years to come?
* Does anything else come to mind?

If you're interested in participating and would like further details, please respond by Monday, March 26th. We'd love to have you aboard! ASAN looks forward to creating a community resource rooted in hope that will appeal to both self-advocates and family members. Nothing About Us Without Us!

Respectfully,

The Autistic Self-Advocacy Network (ASAN) is a non-profit organization run by and for Autistic people, fighting for disability rights in the world of autism. Working in fields such as public policy, media representation, research and systems change, ASAN hopes to empower Autistic people across the world to take control of their own lives and the future of our common community.
