I just got an email from OKcupid that someone asked me why I decided to take a semester off of school. I am 19, failed my first semester (bad teacher, stressful, so I wasn't going to any of my classes). I decided to take a semester off is a nice way of saying that I am not going to school right now so that is what I put. I don't want her to think I am dumb or lazy. I am smart but I just couldn't do it.

I will be going back in the fall or next year.

Just say that you had a lot going on at the time and felt that you couldn't put as much effort and time into school as you wanted to, so you took the time off until you could devote the attention to school that it deserved.
