Am I alone here?

Sometimes I want to say something but I am too scared to say it because one I know it's an unpopular opinion, two I am afraid it will start a drama, three I am afraid it will break a rule.

Then I get mad at myself for being chicken and for not being "honest." I was more open back then but not this time.

Maybe not afraid but I'm at least a little wary.. Like I won't post in ppr for the most part because I don't know the "rules" of debate and tend to just type whatever I'm thinking as I'm thinking it.. I suspect most who post there think their words through a lot more.. Plus I just find politics abhorrent and as good as meaningless.
On the other hand though, I always blurt out what I'm thinking so is kinda silly for me personally to worry about what I say. :)

It depends what the post is about then I might be a little wary about what I am going to post

I've backed out many times, usually about once a day or two

Yes I feel like that quite a lot. Often because I want to respond to something but just can't find the words and also worry about saying the wrong thing. I also procrastinate a lot with some posts. Sometimes it's worse than others.

Sometimes even if an opinion is "unpopular", it often contains a truth that needs to be said but that many do not want to hear.

I don't necessarily see that as a bad thing provided that you can word it in a civilised manner.

I guess the main way I would tell the difference between something that needs to be said and something that is just an impulse is to wait 3 or 4 hours or a day or so and see if they need to post on that particular matter has lessened, grow stronger or is still at the same level as before.

If it's lessened then you probably don't need to post. If it's one of the other 2, then you probably should.

Sometimes the people we hurt the most by being inauthentic are ourselves.

I chicken out many times a day in fear of hurting another member's feelings.

I don't make some posts for all of the three reasons you state: It is an unpopular / highly controversial opinion, it may start a drama and it may break a site rule. I don't consider it chicken not posting though, just sensible sometimes not to hurt people's feelings unnecessarily.

I have not been very active here, just because of what I perceive as the likelihood of being censured or banned if I actually say what I am thinking about a lot of things.

Some of my ideals are a little odd so I tend to feel anxious about posting them.
Also I sometimes hold back from making threads in case they don't get replies, and it's always depressing seeing a thread edge towards the bottom of the page bit by bit until it's on the second.

I've done that once. It was a shocking idea, too, but luckily I didn't support that opinion myself.

I never start topics.

I made a few in the haven but that's it.

One common reason I have is I will write something and realize that it is not what I am trying to say. After a few minutes of rewrites I give up on it
