I've been on dexedrine for 2 years. One of my comorbid conditions is ADHD. It amplifies my autism symptoms like mad though which is a big problem because I can barely talk to people when I'm on it. I was prescribed a few days worth of xanax by my GP a couple of weeks ago and I found that it reversed the autism amplifying effects of dexedrine so that I was able to cure my ADHD but didn't have to sacrifice my ability to talk to people in the process. My psychiatrist retired recently so I'm switching to a new psychiatrist (who also specialises in aspergers/autism) who is a bit younger. Would you say he would prescribe me xanax on top of the dexedrine if I explained my situation to him?

There might be better ADHD medications than Dexedrine, I was on Dexedrine for around a year. In retrospect Dexedrine cleared my executive disfunction and cleared the noise, this just made me more aware of my social difficulties.

There might be other more suitable ADHD medications. Strattera for example. I guess it will depend on your psych. Lowering your dexedrine dose might be helpful, it could just be too high.

Jason.

No, lowering my dexedrine dosage makes things worse. I think at lower doses it acts more on norepinephrine and at higher doses, acts more on dopamine. There probably are better medications but it does work pretty well for me. I was on strattera and ritalin before and dexedrine works the best. Maybe I didn't give strattera enough time though, it gave me bad mood swings so I stopped taking it after 2 weeks.

Vyanse is another one that some people on this forum responded well to, and is more similar to Dexedrine. It is very individual though. What works for one of us may not work for another, so you'll probably need to try some things and figure out what works. Before you go see your new doctor, it might be helpful to write down what medications you've tried so far and what effects you had.
