My blood type is O positive. {O+}

Have you ever donated blood? If you haven't, will you consider doing so?

I was thinking about making a topic about giving blood (probably will after a month or so). I have twice, both times I almost fainted. Started feeling hot and clammy, first time everybody's voices sounded far away and my vision went weird. Probably felt kind of high lol. Plan to after i am allowed to again (went out of the country). I plan to make sure that I eat enough beforehand.

Why didn't you say if you have before?

I have and have been doing so every few months since I graduated from HS.

Yes I have donated a few times when I was younger. Of course now I take 4 differnent prescription drugs daily, 2 blood pressure medications, 1 cholesterol medication and concerta for my ADHD. I doubt they'd let me donate now.

New question:

If you do donate blood, do you donate "whole blood" or donate through apheresis?

When I was unemployed 3 years ago I did go to the blood bank to donate plasma. They turned me down because my blood pressure was too high. Would you believe I got a stroke 2 years later? They were right.

I would like but the time I had an IV I started freaking out and trying to do anything to get them to stop so I don't think it would go over too well.

i don't know my blood type... :lol:

i have never donated blood, and i want to but i am not able to, according to the nearest blood bank. i go to mexico bianually, which apparently blocks me from giving blood since i might risk passing on disease from bug bites (or that is what they claim), and i need to wait 6 months after my trip until i am allowed.

well, in less than six months from now (January 2015) i will have been to mexico again and the cycle will be reset. i'll have to wait until june or july until i am finally able. and in late july i will go south again...

What do you get when you donate a pint of blood? A cookie and some watered-down juice.

What does the hospital get for administering a pint of donated blood? $450 dollars or more, depending on type and need.

Both donors and recipients are getting ripped off.

I like being the Universal Donor. I'm O-Positive.

I would love it, however, if I were the Universal Recipient as well (AB-positive, I believe).
