What would happen if America's entire military quit one night and dismantled all their nukes? Discuss.

America had the once in a lifetime chance to disarm the whole world in 1945.
As the only country with "the bomb" they could have and should have disarmed the USSR and we could have had peace for the last 70 years.

No Korea, no Vietnam, etc, etc.

Too late now of course thanks to British left wing traitors passing bomb making information to the Russians.

If they weren't hanged they should have been.

Would the Chinese and Mooslims come and take our freedoms? lol or would it be totally anti-climatic, possibly a paradigm shift in people's idea about war and peace, and nothing would happen?

The following months we would be speaking Chinese or the Muslim Jihadis would be running wild all over us. In either case the U.S. as it is now would cease to exist.

Well the only way I can see that working is if all countries with nukes....do away with them, otherwise due to the screwed up way things are in the world I assume whoever else has nukes might want to take advantage of this nuke-less U.S.A. Personally I don't think the bloody things should have been created in the first place.

Yeah thats a great idea give impulsive humans of all things the power to kill all living things with the push of a button, there really is no god and if there is he must really just not give a damn.

ruveyn -- Please the Chinese economy would collapse if we stopped buying, the Muslims wouldn't know where to sell oil, and our own economy would fall into a tailspin as the military industrial complex wound down. As I have stated before we have created a mess for which there no easy or logical exit. Although I suspect a total collapse might get some minds to properly address the challenging issues ahead.

Bad things.

Having no military and being a pacifist country seems like a great idea at first, but it just wouldn't work unless every single country did it.

Doubtful. Nature abhors a power vacuum. We couldn't have kept everyone in line.

The economy of the United States would collapse given the enormous economic contraction that would result from millions of people without incomes, unable to buy groceries, unable to pay rent, and unable to be absorbed by a private sector that is struggling to manage any significant employment growth.

That does not even matter, the Russians would have gotten the bomb through their own development

Remember Klaus Fuchs Piro. He got released from prison and then went to China to show them how to make a bomb - maybe.

Maybe we would have had the '60s a decade earlier. Or 2012! 8O

Yes that would be the real threat - not so much the 'outside'.

I think nearly everybody whant to have a world without nuclear weapons.
But one night would be very fast.
Nuclear weapons are always bad,
but it is better when there are also democracies with nuclear weapons.
I think that the western countries could only abolish their nuclear weapons
when countries like North Korea,Pakistan or Russia no have nuclear weapons.
Also when you want a future without nuclear weapons you had to forbid every knowledge about nuclear technology, and that isn't possible.

World war.
Countries would be tripping over each other as they scrambled to take power.
Vast quantities of natural resources, arible land, an intact infrastructure, and an educated populace? Cha ching.
