Last week I did something I thought I'd never do - I asked my GP for anti-depressants.
I'm depressed but I am not suffering from depression, I asked for antidepressants purely to deal with anxiety.

Lately my anxiety become unmanageable and I'm hoping short-term medication will help bring it under control again - natural methods such as herbal supplements don't work for me, there's no way to lessen sources of stress, and I really don't feel comfortable with CBT at the best of times let alone when my social and anxiety problems are as bad as they are right now. I've been put on Fluoxetine - it's only been a week so too early to say if it's going to be any help, although I'm experiencing daily headaches so I'll mention that to the doctor later this week.

What have your experiences with antidepressants been like?
Have you found them helpful for dealing with anxiety?

I'm on Effexor XR and I find that it helps wonderfully for my depression. I'm on the highest dose that you can be on. I found that being on antidepressants made my anxiety go higher and my doctor said that it's because when you're on a higher dose of antidepressants it makes your adrenaline go up which makes your anxiety go up. Since my antidepressants were working great for my depression my doctor left me on that and she put me on Seroquil an anti-psychotic which I take every night and it helps me fall asleep and it calms me down and I also take clonazapam two times a day which really helps with my general and my social anxiety. My clonazapam is definitely my life saver. I used to tremble uncontrollably before I was on it and couldn't eat in front of people, now I take it and it relaxes me so much. It's very physically addicting but it's worth it.

I'm taking Zoloft for depression (for which it has helped tremendously), it has had the welcome side effect of reducing my anxiety to a manageable level.
