Superman (1978) 9/10

Superman II (1980) 8/10

Superman III (1983) 7/10

Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987) 6/10

Superman Returns (2006) 9/10

I own Superman(1978) on blu-ray disc. By the way I think Superman III is very underrated. It's a lot newer looking than the first two movies, and it's neat how it's a comedy-action movie too.

Superman: *****
Superman II: ****
Superman III: **
Superman IV: *1/2
Superman Returns: ***1/2
Superman II Donner Cut: ****1/2

The second one's still a great sequel, but I personally prefer the Donner version to the Lester one. As for Returns, I think its biggest problem was the unfulfilled potential of it.

Superman III has an epic battle between Clark Kent and Superman. I can't figure out if it's actually real, or if it's only going on in Superman's mind.

For the record I do like Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut but I still prefer the Richard Lester one. It had some moments superior to Lester's like the appearence of Jor-El and the proper explaination of how Clark got his powers back. In the Lester one we just see him hold the crystal and that's it. Also I didn't like the ending to the Donner one which had Supes turn back time again and literally go back to the beginning of the movie. In the first he just went back a few seconds, which he shouldn't have anyway but going back to the very beginning is kind of a cheat if you ask me. Also like in the Lester one at the end he confronts that bully who beat him up earlier, but if Supes turned back time then the bully would not have remembered him. Also in the Lester version Clark and Lois slept together after he gave away his powers but in Donner's they sleep together before he gives them away, which brings me to the existence of their son in Superman Returns. When you think about it Superman Returns takes place five years after the Richard Lester version of Superman II and not the Donner Cut. Some people didn't think it made sense that the kid had powers when his father was powerless when he and Lois slept together, but here's my theory which other people probably know. General Zod tells Superman to enter the machine which has revealed to changed outside and has Zod and his minions lose their powers and I'm assume it gave powers to the kid who was inside Lois. Also in the Donner Cut Superman destroys the fortress of solitude which was in Superman Returns so that proves that both those films don't co-exist with each other, though who's to say that the fortress actually returns when he actually turns back time but Lois wouldn't be pregnant. Also in my opinion and possibly others there are three seperate Superman movie universes which revolve around the first. One universe features just the first four, the second features just the first two and Returns and the third one features the first one, the Richard Donner cut of the second one and possibly the third one but not the fourth one because the fortress of solitude is in that one.

I'll admit that the ending of the Donner Cut was pretty weak since it was basically the same one from the first one. (I'll save the BS physics of that ending for another day) But since it's an alternate version of the film and it was likely that Donner didn't have the planned ending for the film shot when he got fired, they really didn't have a choice but to reuse it. So I let it slide for those reasons.

Honestly, from what I remember (having not seen them all in a while), #2 was the best by far, and #1 was quite good too. #3 was a bit silly - though I did like Richard Pryor in it, and #4 was worse. Did not see Superman Returns.

I give the fourth one credit for Gene Hackman's Lex Luthor, who, like Lois, was missing the third one.

I have not yet seen Man of Steel.

Comments:
Superman 1 & 2: Not much anything bad to say.
Superman 3: Right around the fight between clark kent and superman I just thought it was ridiculous.
Superman 4: An awkward nuclear disarm message. Throw all Nuclear missiles into the sun. Underground arms dealers. Everything is back to normal. Movie ends with nothing changed. Crap.
Superman Returns: Plot is weak. Character Development is weak. Ending is weak.
Man of Steel: Haven't seen it yet. If you don't mind spoilers like I do, keep reading. I heard the ending was controversially out of character. Superman Kills Zod and doesn't feel bad that he took a life at all. Keep in Mind that I only heard but not seen for myself yet.
