I've just gone through 11 pages of "posts since last visit", looking for topics that I find interesting.

I probably missed lots that I would have enjoyed, but they had topic names like "What do you think about this?". That isn't a real topic name, because it says absolutely nothing about the topic. It could be about anything.

My recommendation is that we try to use more-specific topic names, ones that convey what the topic is about.

I agree with you 100%. I feel less inclined to read a thread that starts with "What Do You Think..." I feel more inclined to read threads that have more concrete headings.

I agree. I dont know how many threads I've started but I try to keep the main idea in the subject line

Yes, but we should avoid codifying compliance.

Anyone who wants more response to their thread need to have a good Topic Name. If it's a poor name, well then it sucks to be them. I quit looking at the vague Topic Names as well. I spend a lot of time here and with a dial up Internet connection I don't want to spend my time on something I'm likely not too interested in.

I'd also like it if we could select what boards to show using that function, since I'm really not interested in most of the stuff in the random discussion forum, as well as some of the age/gender related forums.

I like this idea-if one could set one's profile to automatically exclude or include certain sections that one prefers to skip or focus on. Then it would be a more manageable (shorter) list when one uses "show posts since last visit".

Same situation here.

Well put-I agree with that, too.
I've never started a thread at WP, but I think ed's suggestion would benefit both writers & (potential) readers. Part of it is that one can only see so much of title in the list-one needs to remember to put most important/relevant words first.

Personally, I'm getting a kick out of my brain auto-answering some of the more ambiguous topics.

"Who am I?" "Well, duh, you're you!"
"I can't recall the name..." "It's 'Dave'."
"Degrees are unimportant?" "Well, it all depends; to what degree d'you think degrees are.."
"Any thoughts on Provigil?" "Yeah, it's horrid and it makes my cat puke. Maybe I shouldn't administer it rectally tho."
"Going to see my doctor today" "Good luck! And tell him he still owes me $50!"
"Do the 'normals' seem cold and inhuman to you?" "Only after they've been in the deep freeze for an hour or so."

and on... and on...and on... and on... reading through the list of most recent posts is like one long smartass session for my brain.

I think we should use more obscure topic names and we should stop looking through 11 pages of posts and reroute that time into more productive activities such as reading posts.
