Ubuntu 11.10 (my dad's afraid to update cause the new one might not be as good).

I just got into programming; i know how to do VERY basic things with lua (tried to learn loops but it was VERY confusing), and a bit of programming on a ti graphing calculator.

anybody know whether 12.04 is better than 11.10? or how to make loops on lua (u know, the things with for)?

12.04 is definitely much cleaner than 11.10 by far. You might have a problem with your wireless after the update though. Before I left Ubuntu behind completely and took my Arch Linux as my full time OS, I updated my Ubuntu 11.10 and lost my wireless capability completely. The update either removed an important module or there was an issue with the driver/firmware not being properly installed. Maybe not installed at all. Who knows. Apparently it has happened to tons of people.

Windows being automatic; booting up Win 7 fixed it for me.

Overall though, Ubuntu 12.04 is very crisp and so much cleaner than 11.10!

OpenVMS? Where can I get ahold of that?
The emulators the OS image/installation are hard to find.

You should also try things like QNX, Plan9 and Haiku (BeOS). Those systems are unique and awesome in their own way.

After the fiasco moving from 10.10 to 11.04, I've rolled back to 10.10 and if I live to be 400, I will not upgrade beyond 10.10.

I am using Ubuntu 12.04, but before that I used Mint 12. Before Mint 12 I used Fedora 15 I think, and before that it was Ubuntu again.

Try SolusOS 1.1, It's Debian Stable with a 3.3.6 Kernel and up to date software.
