English. I like to listen to all kinds of different regional accents in the US and UK.
I live in northeast Ohio and I don't think people here have any distinctive accent. It's weird.

My favorite language is Italian. I love the food and I just love Italy. I have never been there before.

I'm currently trying to learn Dutch, but I'd love to learn German and Hebrew as well. My favourite language to listen to is German, it just sounds 'right' to me. I also like the sound of Arabic, but it's not something I would learn.

You should live in my country. We learn german in school from the 7th grade.
I also like arabic thats why I call myself AspieSharaf. Sharaf means "honor" in arabic.
I have studied arabic for 3 years or so. Its really a hard language. The verbs are really a challenge, and I wont even talk about how hard it is to learn the alfabet. :wall:
If you want to study a middle east language, then I would recommend farsi, its much easier to learn for a person with an indoeuropean language as his or hers native language.
And also the verbs on farsi are 10 times easier than on arabic, IMO

That interesting.
I knew that hebrew and arabic are semitic, and that Iranian is Indoeuropean- making it a distant cousin to european languages.

But that kinship is rather distant, and i didnt know that it was noticeable easier to learn for european language speakers than the semitic languages.

Does Farsi divide the world into masculine and femine the way that most non-english european languages do?

Only actually studied two: french and Spanish.

Spanish is more user-friendly.

Spanish;like its cousins Portugese, and Italian, is pleasing to listen to.

German. It's fascinating to me.

Russian and Japanese take second and third.

My favorite language is French by far. German is second and Old Irish is third. They've always seemed really pretty to me (escpially French, I love saying "bleu"!), so I like them alot! I'm trying to learn French on my own since I have a book that teaches you French, but i'm not good at it. I'll keep trying though!

sung French is incomparable at times-

lyrics here [with translation] for sing-a-longs :dj:

Moi j'ai quitté mon pays bleu [Me I've left my blue country]
Moi j'ai quitté mon pays bleu
Moi j'ai quitté mon pays bleu
Et je n'ai pas su lui dire adieu [And I didn't know to say goodbye]

Petit enfant dans mon château [Little child in my Castle]
J'aimais voir dormir la belle au bord de l'eau [I loved to see sleeping beauty by the water]
La belle a grandit mais mon beau château [The belle has grown up but my beautiful castle]
S'est envolé, oh volé, volé, volé, volé, vole...[It's flown, oh stolen, stolen, stolen, stolen...]

Dans le grand jardin de mes parents [In the large garden of my parents]
Je jouait près d'un chêne qui avait cent ans [I was playing near an oak which had a hundred years]
Si le chêne est là, le petit enfant [If the oak is there, the little child]
S'est envolé, oh volé, volé, volé, volé, vole...

Ma mère un jour a du partir [My mother one day of the parting]
Au pays des souvenirs [In the land of memories]
Je me souviens mais son sourire [I remember but his smile]
S'est envolé, oh volé, volé, volé, volé, vole...

and the opera wouldn't quite be the same without some Italian, would it?

lyrics included with translation, for sing-alongs :dj:

Recitar! Mentre preso dal delirio, [To act! while taken with delirium,]
non so più quel che dico, [I do not know what I'm saying]
e quel che faccio! [and what i do!]
Eppur è d'uopo, sforzati! [yet it is necessary, strain!]
Bah! Sei tu forse un uom? [Bah! Are you not a man?]
Tu se' Pagliaccio! [You are a Clown!]

Vesti la giubba e la faccia infarina. [Put on your costume and the face powder]
La gente paga, e rider vuole qua. [The people pay, and they want to laugh]
E se Arlecchin t'invola Colombina, [And if Harlequin invites away Columbina,]
ridi, Pagliaccio, e ognun applaudirà! [laugh, Clown, and everyone will applaud!]
Tramuta in lazzi lo spasmo ed il pianto [transmute into jest the spasms and your tears]
in una smorfia il singhiozzo e 'l dolor, Ah! [in a grimace the tears and the pain, Ah!]

Ridi, Pagliaccio, [Laugh, Clown]
sul tuo amore infranto! [on your love broken!]
Ridi del duol, che t'avvelena il cor! [Laugh at the pain that poisons your heart!]

[this song makes me cry every time   ]
