When I turn on my computer (it is a Windows XP from 2001), I get a quick flash that says "invalid boot.ini file, loading (I can't read the rest of the message fast enough)". Is this something that will come back to bite me over time?

Apparently its caused by file corruption over time and can sometimes cause windows to not load properly. Microsoft has a help file ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/330184 ) that should explain how to fix it. You will need your Windows XP CD, which should have come with your computer.
